Fields: Search Result Displays

Search Result Displays lets you manage the search result displays that are available on your system. A search result display controls the data that appears when Portfolio displays a list of search results to the patron. You can add new search result displays, edit or delete existing search result displays, and configure the search fields that have been enabled for a search result display.

Displays > Search Result Displays

When you configure a search result display, you associate it with a Discovery search target. You can then enable specific search fields to display based on the search fields that you have previously set up and whether those search fields are enabled for the Discovery search target associated with your search result display. After you have configured a search result display, you can associate it with one or more profiles or rooms.

Every search target must have at least one search result display associated with it. When you add a Discovery or federated search target, a new default search result display is created automatically. For more information, see Adding or editing a Discovery search target and Adding or editing a federated search target.

If you add, edit, or remove a search results display, configure the search fields for a search result display, or change the search results display assigned to a profile, you must refresh the Discovery search cache afterwards. Your changes are not reflected in Searching or the Admin console until you refresh the search cache. For more information about refreshing the Discovery search cache, see Refreshing the search cache.

By default, the information in the Search Display List is sorted in ascending order by code name. You can sort the Search Display List by other data by clicking the column heading of the information by which you want to sort. For example, click the “Name” column to sort the Search Display List by name. When you click the column heading the first time, the software sorts the information in the list in ascending order by the column heading. If you click the column heading a second time, the software sorts information in descending order by the column heading. When you click a column heading, the software displays a sort arrow to the right of the column name that indicates whether the data is being sorted in ascending () or descending () order.
